Peek-A-Booo

After seeing a lot of different college movies in my life, I built up a picture of how it would be to come to the United States. My picture did not really fulfill the “real” thing coming to a division two school. On the other hand, I had no expectations for how it would be. When visiting a division one school the image in my head that I had built up from all the movies and stories finally came true. There was an atmosphere that made the hair on my arms rise. Everything was so much more professional than I had earlier experienced. Once again the funding played a big role.

Peek-A-Boo

Swimming has been one of the most successful sports in the Olympic Games for the United States, talking about the total amount of medals. Why is it then so hard to get some credit and recognition for the sport outside of the Olympics? We can watch basketball, baseball and football the whole year, every weekend, and on multiple channels, but we never see big swim meets. Their seasons go hand in hand, and follow each other. How come people only watch swimming for the biggest competition of them all regardless that it is one of the most successful sports ever? To just watch swimming in the Olympic Games would be like only watching the super bowl for football, or the final game for baseball and basketball. To keep the high “standard” and successfulness we need to stop just giving credit and recognition to the popular sports, and put more focus on the smaller but successful sports as well. They should put more focus on the world championships and even at the NCAA championship, like they do for the final four for example.
